The situation in Lesvos and at the Turkish-Greek border, which has been terrible for years, now seems to be errupting, with the Greek government abolishing the right to asylum, the Greek coastal guard beating people, trying to sink boats in distress (https://www.washingtonpost.com/video/world/video-appears-to-show-greek-coast-guard-ramming-migrant-boat/2020/03/02/5a2d9976-adf2-46f5-be88-c2c9e06612fd_video.html), using tear gas against children (https://twitter.com/jenanmoussa/status/1234414067080683520), and locals gone racist physically attacking journalists, NGOs, refugees and politicians (https://twitter.com/ErikMarquardt/status/1234096373357842436). EU governments don’t lift a finger, except for using every opportunity possible to dehumanize refugees, fueling hatred and (European) nationalism, and expressing their solidarity with the Greek coastal guard (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/03/migration-eu-praises-greece-as-shield-after-turkey-opens-border).
Meanwhile, in Maastricht a neo-fascist movement occupied a refugee center and the hate machine started running wild on Facebook. We cannot stand by and watch this happen! In this demonstration have one message: welcome refugees and stop racism! We stand with refugees worldwide and do not condone these actions!
