Towards safe harbours and solidary cities: #SeehoferWegbassen

Demonstration against tightening asylum laws

30. March – 2pm – Oberbaumbrücke

‘Heimathorst’ Seehofer calls his new legislative initiative the “Ordered Return Act” (Geordnete-Rückkehr-Gesetz). However, the term “Ruthless Deportation and Deprivation Law” would be more fitting. The act restricts the rule of law, fair procedures and civil society commitment. It is an attack on all of us and on our diverse society!

Refugees who do not cooperate for their own deportation will be locked up in regular prisons. Those who stand in the way of deportations will be liable to prosecution. Similarly, to how search and rescue volunteers are facing legal proceedings because they have saved lives, the publication of deportation dates will also become a criminal offence. This endangers people in social work, counselling centres and journalism. Seehofer wants to silence the people who stand for a diverse society, but we will do exactly the opposite!

Since taking office, the Minister of the Interior has actively blocked the rescuing of people in distress at sea. Thus, he has been responsible for the life-threatening situations of thousands. Both on the Mediterranean and through deportations to war zones: The inhuman and racist policies of the Ministry of Interior have deadly consequences.

Over the last months, hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets for an open society based on solidarity and against right-wing, racist agitation. Dozens of cities in Germany and throughout Europe have declared their willingness to accept more refugees. We will not allow Seehofer, Salvini and their henchmen to make human lives and human rights a tool of their power-political calculations. As a society based on solidarity, we stand together.

We stand for a society that is solidary and anti-racist, diverse and open, queer and feminist, inclusive and colourful, equal and progressive, tolerant and caring. We stand for the decriminalisation of sea rescue and those who show solidarity with refugees. We stand for the right to asylum and freedom of movement, for safe escape routes and family reunification, for safe harbours, for humane reception and the right of all to stay!

This means that we stand for everything Horst Seehofer is not and does not want. Let us demand Seehofer’s disorderly resignation!

And once he’s gone, keep on opposing every racist and exclusionary policy!
