On Friday, a fire in the Kara Tepe camp destroyed two tents, each of which housed two families. An electrical misuse may have caused the fire. Today again a tent was on fire and a woman was injured and had to be taken to the hospital. Once again it shows how dangerous the living conditions in the Greek camps are.
Almost half a year ago, after the fire in Camp Moria, politicians said that something like this must not happen again. Since then, only the temporary camp Kara Tepe has been built under the most terrible conditions on a former military site. The residues of the exercises that remain there have probably contaminated the soil with lead. This alone makes the site a health hazard for the people who have to live there.
