3. May 2021 24 people died on their way to the Canary Islands

In 2021, people are more and more fleeing across the Atlantic to the Canary Islands. That this escape is particularly dangerous is shown by an example from last week: After 22 days at sea, 24 people were found dead in a boat near the Canary Islands. Only 3 people survived this flight, 32 more people are still missing.

In 2020 alone, 22,000 people fled to the Canary Islands. The 100-kilometer route to the islands is particularly dangerous because the mostly smaller outboard motors cannot withstand the currents from the Atlantic Ocean.

Whether in the central Mediterranean or in the Atlantic – the dying at the European external borders must stop! We demand safe passage and a European, state-run sea rescue mission!
