Briefly to the content:
In autumn 2015, a group of young committed people founded the JUGEND RETTET initiative in Berlin. Through a crowdfunding campaign, they buy a converted fishing cutter and name it ” Iuventa “. In the following year their ship starts its first mission and joins the ships of various NGOs, the Italian Coast Guard and the Navy.
After more than a year of service and about 14,000 rescued people on the high seas, the ship was suddenly confiscated in August 2017 and detained by the Italian authorities in Lampedusa. Since then the accusation of cooperation with tugboats has been circulating. However, no charges have been filed to date. The moving story was captured by director Michele Cinque. For over a year, the film follows the lives of the young protagonists, captures the entire span of the mission, starting with the moment they set sail and their unbelievable project comes true, to the point where it collides with political reality.
