Over the past 25 years, more than 35,000 people have died fleeing to and in Europe.
35,000 people, 35,000 stories, 35,000 dead, which the European Union accepts as a price for its deadly border policy.
On the International Human Rights Day 2018, the list of the dead will be published as a book. Listed are only the documented cases, most of the dead are unnamed. Survivors have provided the editors with some names of their dead, others have been researched. The list was supplemented by portraits and photos.
The book “Cause of death: flight. An incomplete list” is a memorial to the dead and a homage to the living – to the families who have lost one of their loved ones and to those who have survived. The book wants to shake up and create awareness that behind every number stands a human being. The dying must stop!
For us, International Human Rights Day is no reason to celebrate. On the 9th of December, one day before the International Human Rights Day, we want to commemorate the dead together and take a stand against the inhuman border policy of the European Union.
Together, we will read names and symbolically bury the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Come and let us show that we do care about what happens on our external borders in our name. We do not look away. We will not watch in silence as the list grows, day after day.
